The Golden Era Of Entertainment

Music, movies, TV shows and books – a fair part of our leisure time is spent on them.  All this time, we have learnt to appreciate and respect such works which are regarded as classics across various cultures and genres. We remake our favourites and revisit the old ones. The excitement of the new and the comfort of the old brings all of us joy.

The new hit name in the music industry is BTS – a Korean hip-hop group that has taken over the world with its soulful music. Also known as the ‛Bangtan Boys,’  they are the first Korean band to top the Billboard 200. Their albums are simply beautiful because each song tells a part of the story which culminates into a heart-touching story. They have become a sensation because they are sweet and extremely down to earth. The songs that they give us, are an instant hit because of all the hard work and dedication they put behind each of their songs. All of the guys have an amazing friendship and are very co-ordinated in their moves. It is said that the Korean companies often take a video of the band performing, and then pause it at random intervals to check if the movements are co-ordinated; and if they are at a different dance step, showing lack of harmony, then they redo the entire performance! It is this level of dedication that makes us all love this band.

“I solemnly swear I am upto no good.”
Harry Potter is another classic that people of all ages enjoy, and is, and will always be appreciated by all generations. JK Rowling, with her words, entraps us in a world of wizards and magic, which we are unable to put down once we take up the book. I personally never get tired of watching or even re-reading this book. I might have read it nearly ten times and the movies are absolutely out of this world; they represent the books as closely as possible.

“May the odds be ever in your favour”
The Hunger Games is another best-seller, which much like Harry Potter is a star-stopper. It’s a stunning work from the point of view of a sixteen year old who is selfish, yet selfless, and gets burdened with the task of becoming a voice of the masses at an age when most of us are worried about our terms. The book narrates a rollercoaster ride  journey that is emotional, confusing but all the way thrilling. These two books are some of the best works of fiction I have ever seen and read in my short life of eighteen years.

“ Bade bade desho mein aise choti choti baate toh hoti rehti hai, senorita!”
This line made us fall ever more in love with Shah Rukh Khan. This movie is a romantic comedy that one can enjoy at anytime; the love-hate relationship of Raj and Simran giving us one of the greatest romances of all time s. It was the most innocent and cute relationship which made all of us mushy.
Very much like DDLJ in Bollywood, Sixteen Candles is another romance that is historic in Hollywood. The attraction, the crush, and the pressures of handling a relation when you are sixteen- it shows all of it. ‘Does he notice me?’ ‘Does she think of me just as a friend?’  The movie navigates the high school world, in which Sam finally conquers her crush and shares a sweet sixteen kiss.

‛Save the best for the last’ they say. Well, this show comes as close enough to best for me as it possibly can. F.R.I.E.N.D.S  for me is a journey, which has now become my comfort. I was at first reluctant to watch it because it has and will always be mainstream and popular, but let me tell you guys, it has been my absolute pleasure to watch this show. I  watch the show in all situations and by now,  I can mouth almost all lines of the show even before they do. The best part is the show portrays normal, flawed people who together create a perfect friendship. If you are a F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan and don’t know this already, Google you favourite character and you will find a surprise waiting for you which will warm your heart.
A little from the old, along with little of new, pretty much sums up this era, of which I am proud to be a part of.
