Black Lives Matter

'There comes a time when silence is betrayal'.
 -Martin Luther King .

To where it all started…
Let's go back in time to the year 2013-
The year 2013 which has made all difference by celebrating the acknowledgment of the existence of
black lives, when the never answered injustice in the form of racism was questioned.
Black lives matter is the world famous movement which signifies the contribution of the black folks in
the society. The movement came to life against the white supremacy because of the deadly oppression
and the brutal behaviour faced by the black race community. The movement black lives matter focuses
on changing the mindset of racists that there is no black-white, African-American, the only race is
Human race. In other words, humanity should be our race and love should be the religion.

How digital media played a role?
The gruesome death of Trayvon Martin a 17 year old African American who was shot in Sanford, Florida
by George Zimmerman who was later not found guilty and became the inspiration for the campaign
which was co- founded by three black women – Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi, through
the social media platform that is Facebook. The phrase "black lives matter" was first used by Garza post
the incident. Thus it gave rise to the world famous #BlackLivesMatter which then began a movement that challenged and questioned the way countries around the world treated black people

The dawn of hopes-
This hashtag became the talk of the town with every person forming their opinion on it. Little did they know that this movement was not as any other ordinary movement as
it gathered pace and importance in the eyes of the then government of United States of America which
was led by President Barack Obama. His elections raised hopes of ending racism, because he himself was
the first African- American president of USA where people of Africa were brought to land by British colonists to serve as slaves but despite endless efforts the racism continued to worsen year by year. Thus, taking lives of people all round the world in the name of racism.

The rage into movement
This created a rage among the activists forcing them to organise riots and protests under the banner
Black Lives Matter ,stating “No justice No peace. “
As its wisely quoted that-
In a racist society,
It is not enough to be non -racist.
We must be anti-racist.”
And that's how a hashtag turned into a massive movement
