Haiku Rush

Image
I write, erase, rewrite Erase again, and then A poppy blooms. Novelty and innovation are the crux of today’s generation and so is the introduction of the term Haiku, because when no one can hear, words find meaning here. This is a beautiful modernism in the writing industry, encouraging and fostering the upcoming poets to put forth their talent and work.  What is Haiku? Haiku (hokku), is a Japanese verse of three unrhymed lines of five, seven and five syllables. The concept of Haiku started off in the thirteenth century. Earlier it used to be of hundred stanzas, however due to evolution and passage of time it broke away and was made shorter.  Renga, an oral poem was converted into a typical haiku by Matsuo Basho,                                        An old pond                                        Frog jumps in                                        The sound of water After having a gist about what haiku means, it is easy to relate with the concept of Haiku jam. The Poetry Hub

"Weaving the words  In a rhythmic line We live our pain twice But that's fine!" A poet is a person who beautifully frames the words, the feelings and the emotions in  such a manner that the reader feels the pain and joy behind those words. And poetry is something where a person anonymously pours his heart out.  Poetry evokes emotions, imaginations and elevates thoughts. It gives a sense of rhythmic composition to life making it more beautiful. When a poet writes, his piece of work is unique, but it follows a pattern. Poetry has various patterns and forms. Amongst them, the following nine are the primitive one. Up first is  Haiku - Haiku is a short three liner poetry originated in Japan. It follows the 5 7 5 pattern in syllables. It officially became a form of poetry in the 17th century.   Sonnet - A sonnet is a fourteen line poem with a fixed rhyme scheme. Sonnets were invented by the Italian poet Giacomo da Lentini during the 1200s. It is basically a little song or sma

Whispers Never Heard

"When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers it's halloween."  Here we are, back with two deadly characters. We know all of you here are well acquainted with these characters. We hereby are going to compare the evil residing in us with such infamous characters.  We've seen a lot of web series and movies and heard of many stories about witches.  They're crafty, devious and cunning, aren't they? Not every witch is evil, likewise not every living person is bad. Let's see what we find out about ourselves when we dive deep into the customs of witches. Witches are magicians, who are able to cast spells. They are profoundly known for their curses and deadly spells. Witches are keen to gain control over arcane. They’ll go out of their ways to solve the untold mysteries and secrets. Similarly, we humans, by wrong means, find out someone's weaknesses and then we use it against them, to prove to them that we are the best. When a

The Evil Within

Image
As the last man on the earth sat alone in a room, he heard a constant knocking on his head, like something was going to explode. But something did explode, didn't it? The evil inside him did. Loud music came from the adjoining room but he almost slipped into an imaginary movie reel of all the devilish thoughts, actions, and traits he had let unfold in the past years. The music became almost deafening when he came to realise that in fact, he wasn't the last man on the earth, but he sure was the loneliest. With Halloween around the corner and all the peachy clothes we're wearing, it took a bit of introspection for us to dive deep into the evil inside us as humans. And since we are so well-versed with our infamous Halloween characters, we hereby try to compare our evil with their traits. Let's start with zombies, shall we? Zombies always represent ‘the other’ – the stranger, the outcast, the dark force, it exposes the underlying racial tensions amongst the society. The d

Feminism: The Way Of Being

Image
A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men. Gloria Steinem. Feminism not a one way concept, a wide spectrum…       Feminism – an eight-letter word which has shaped the beliefs of all of the human-kind, which has kept the connotation of ‘feminism’ as the advocacy of women’s rights the grounds of the equality of the sexes. Through this piece, I’d like to share my notion about this sentiment, seeking to establish parallel ‘hope’, ‘freedom’, ‘space’, ‘contingency’ and ‘cut’ through a male prospect. The penchant wave formally began in 1848, where about three hundred men and women rallied about for the cause of equality for women. The socio-historical oppression was born when contradiction was seen as the antagonism between both of these sexes on the basis of biological differences, being compared to men, it was believed that women were at a biological disadvantage, as the reproductive function of a woman was considered as a taboo or a so-called han

Feminism In India

"We need to live in a culture that values and respects and looks up to and idolizes women as much as men”.                        ~ Emma Watson     Be the change you want to see… Feminism in India is a set of movements aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political and economic rights for women in India. It is the pursuit of women's rights within the society of India. Feminists in India seek gender equality: the right to work for equal wages, the right to equal access to health and education, and equal political rights. Indian feminists also have fought against culture-specific issues within India's patriarchal society, such as inheritance laws.   The moon is still the moon through all it's phases... The history of feminism in India can be divided into three phases: the first phase, beginning in the mid-19th century, initiated when reformists began to speak in favor of women rights by making reforms in education, customs involving women; the second ph

The Waves Of Feminism

Image
“ Feminism is the radical notion that women are human beings”    ~ Cherish Kramarae None superior, none inferior it's all about equality  Feminism is about all genders having equal rights and opportunities. Feminism is about respecting diverse women’s perspectives, opinions, strengths and striving to empower all women to unleash their potentials. It’s about levelling the playing field between genders, ensuring that women have the same rights and opportunities as men. The meaning of feminism is: advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights for women equal to those of men. And if you believe in equality then you are a feminist.   Feminism is about learning and understanding the ways that inequality and discrimination affect women and recognizing that we are all equal. Feminism highlights the male dominated societies and the injustice that the women face within the society. Feminism empowers women to achieve their goals acting as a positive force in their lives.   It'

Parmesh Shahani Is an author, LGBTQIA+ inclusion advocate and the Vice President of Godrej Industries Ltd. His book Queeristan: LGBTQ Inclusion in the Indian Workplace throws light on the adversities that the LGBTQIA+ community has faced at workplaces. Mr. Shahani believes that creating inclusive workplace is very important, because workplaces are often crucibles of identity and personality formation in India, beyond just homes, schools and colleges. His books inspire millions willing to stand up against the gender based discrimination in their work place and change narrow mindsets. The work places in India have seen a huge change from commitment to bring about change, to workplaces having a rainbow PR plan, to social justice movements taking place around the nation. The Pride Way

"The beauty of standing up for your rights is that others see you standing and stand up as  well." - Cassandra Duffy The courage of those who walked the Pride Parade brought about tumultuous changes in  many parts of the world. Here are some:   Australia: Australia has the highest number of laws protecting LGBTQIA+ community from  discrimination in workplaces and in general. Among the plenty rights available to the  community, the prominent ones are: change of sex, personnel allowed to serve in military,  marriage, adoption, and running for political positions. France : France has the reputation of being the most gay-friendly countries, Paris being called the  most romantic cities in the world, how can it become a hindrance to love! The country allows  most of the rights to the LGBT+ community, although large numbers of homophobic and  transphobic attacks are observed every year due to the orthodox thinking still prevailing.  USA: Continuous efforts have been made to make USA

The Pride March

Stand up for what you believe in, even if it means standing alone. ~Andy Biersack How does India accept it? As we are largely familiar, some minds in India do not bond well with the idea of LGBTQIA+ community, even in the 21st centuary. It would naturally come as a surprise, then, that the first protest held in India opposing continuous harassment against gay men on August 11th, 1992. The first Pride Parade was observed 7 years later, in 1999, in Kolkata, comprising just a group of 15 gay men. They marched off to spread basic awareness of the LGBTQIA+ community and their issues, which some people were still absolutely unaware about.  The Pride Parade then grew into a much bigger fair, spreading to the major cities by 2008. What started with just 15 men trying to change something, now sees lakhs of people holding a rainbow flag across the country. Pillars of Black Lives Matter

Even the strongest of ships need an anchor....  It is always said that behind every successful man there is a woman which also stands true for the biggest ever organised movements against racism, Black Lives Matter And our series of blogs could not be complete without knowing the most significant contributors or rather the founders of the movement. They proved that one can walk through hell yet be an angel. They've gone through all the insult, embarrassment, faced injustice and cruelty yet they've won the hearts of millions! Patrisse Khan-Cullors The woman behind the words One of the three gems is Patrisse Khan-Cullors -an artist par excellence, an ingenious organizer and true freedom fighter from Los Angeles, California. Co-founder of Black Lives Matter, and Peace Prize awardee. Her greatest works includes “When they Call you a Terrorist:A Black Lives Matter Memoir“ the book which shook the world by its words. USA and Black Lives Matter

Image
A rising tide lifts all boats…  The Black Lives Matter is a significant movement which inspires millions round the world to be an anti racist rather than a non racist. As many governments across the world have adopted this ideology and brought about revolutionary changes in sectors which dominated black community. They even openly supported Black Lives Matter movement in order to end the cruel and unjust tradition of racism in their respective countries. Let’s swing a pendulum and land on United States of America which is the birth place of #BlackLivesMatter. Why USA? United States of America being the epicenter of the movement Black Lives Matter, is also regarded as the most powerful country in the world from being a super power to having a veto power. Name it and United States of America has it. Since childhood every child dreams to go to United States of America to study or work at least once in their life time.Such a country with colossal reputation shockingly or

Black Lives Matter

'There comes a time when silence is betrayal'.   -Martin Luther King .  To where it all started… Let's go back in time to the year 2013- The year 2013 which has made all difference by celebrating the acknowledgment of the existence of black lives, when the never answered injustice in the form of racism was questioned. Black lives matter is the world famous movement which signifies the contribution of the black folks in the society. The movement came to life against the white supremacy because of the deadly oppression and the brutal behaviour faced by the black race community. The movement black lives matter focuses on changing the mindset of racists that there is no black-white, African-American, the only race is Human race. In other words, humanity should be our race and love should be the religion. How digital media played a role? The gruesome death of Trayvon Martin a 17 year old African American who was shot in Sanford, Florida by George Zimmerman who

HR Speaks

When we hear the term Human Resource Management, the very first thing that strikes us is leadership and communication. While everyone talks about these terms, their exact meaning is not always defined. While these two terms are shrouded as ambiguous, charismatic and inexplicably different, the demand for them in the corporate world continues to grow. As a junior, our only job is to be good at our job. We are given training—how to use the software, how to sell, how to make a presentation etc. and if we excel at our job, we move up the hierarchy. We get a higher position where we may hold more decision-making power than our earlier colleagues. This is likely to cause a retaliation from them, making it difficult to lead. Although it is unfortunate, it is also true that very few companies actually teach us to lead. The current leadership scenario is such that it is like putting someone in front of a machine and demanding results without showing them how the machine works. The

If we were meant to stay at one place, we would have had roots instead of feet. Nothing is as liberating as a solo trip —tranquil yet adventurous.         The history of travelling shows immense progress. Begining with travel for food and livelihood, that urge was slowly overcome by an unknown impulse of curiosity. Travel dates back to antiquity — from the wealthy leisure trips of the Greeks and the Romans, to the business trips of merchants. In fact, Earth wouldn't be as evolved and widespread as it is today, if it wasn't for this impulse of travelling. Travelling made the passage and circulation of art, religion and science possible .        Travelling is a passion for some who wish to break the monotony. It's a way of adding spice to our boring routine. It is to rinse out the bitter taste of life; because in the end, you won't remember the hours spent in office but the addictive smell of the mountains. We long for that soft wet smell of the hills and sal

Home

Image
HOME There is no place like home. The very word brings a plethora of memories and a picture as clear as day to our mind. I have always wondered what does home mean to me? Is it the city I have grown up in or the 3BHK in Kandivali? Will it be the apartment I always planned to live in, run with the money I will soon earn as a tribute to my independence? Will I like some, find the comfort of home in the different countries I will travel to and with the strangers who will eventually become family? During this lockdown, I have come to hate the word “home” because I can’t leave the place. I have to do much more than my share of chores to keep my “home” clean and the only view I ever see is of the buildings surrounding it. I am sure all of you are tired to see the same people, follow the same routine; wake up, do your chores, study(in my case), watch Netflix and sleep; god knows I am. I am so frustrated, I want to pull my hair out. While cleaning I pulled out the few photos I have o

Drawing Parallels

The current global scenario is unprecedented. It is having consequences we have never seen before. The virus has taken a toll on almost every human activity. Everyone is looking for answers to the same questions - will this end? If yes, then how long will it be?         Countless researchs have taken place; all kinds of rigmaroles have already been suggested for an upward turn of the economy; and numerous figures have been estimated. But we still don't know how exactly everything will be after a few months.         Governments around the globe and their people are made to choose between life, death and the economy. Something of this severity has not been experienced by mankind before. Or, is it?         Experts have compared the current global crisis with a bunch of other virus epidemics and pandemics like American Plague, Russian Plague, Great Plague of London, Yellow fever epidemic and Asian Flu epidemic. But the immenseness of the virus prevailing today exceeds all of t

COVID-19 & BUSINESS

Image
The coronavirus outbreak ensured that the Year of the Rat doesn't get off to the most propitious start. Over 27,000 fatalities so far, more than 6,00,000 infected and 190+ countries affected has made WHO to declare Corona Virus as a global pandemic.         Since there is no vaccine to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to date, the only prevention that people have is to avoid being exposed to the virus. This can be achieved through social distancing, personal hygiene measures, and avoiding contact with the infected person.         To mitigate the risks involved with contagiousness of the disease, several countries and their cities have been put into lockdown, placing quarantine measures on the entire population. This has confined the citizens to their homes unless they have to buy food, medicine, or seek any medical treatment.         Along with this, global companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Salesforce, Twitter, etc, have rolled out mandatory

Coronavirus

"History" has indeed lived up to it's name – starting from 1720 with plague, 1820 with cholera, 1920 with the Spanish flu, to 2020 with COVID-19. The pandemic has affected millions of lives already. Today, when we speak of the COVID-19, the fear of death comes to our minds. Corona virus having been originated in China, has caused chaos worldwide, with Italy leading the list of countries affected. Recently, reports have shown doctors returning from Wuhan after their success in treating infected patients.         Dating back to the initial days of January, a doctor had discovered a new virus after which he warned his medical colleagues, says media. The government silenced Dr Li, as it felt that he was spreading rumours. Had China taken Dr Li's discovery seriously,  there wouldn't be a global emergency. Two days ago, the Communist Party of China sent a ‛solemn apology’ to Dr Li's family.  Unfortunately, Dr Li passed away after warning about the COVID - 19. Dur

The Golden Era Of Entertainment

Music, movies, TV shows and books – a fair part of our leisure time is spent on them.  All this time, we have learnt to appreciate and respect such works which are regarded as classics across various cultures and genres. We remake our favourites and revisit the old ones. The excitement of the new and the comfort of the old brings all of us joy.  The new hit name in the music industry is BTS – a Korean hip-hop group that has taken over the world with its soulful music. Also known as the ‛Bangtan Boys,’  they are the first Korean band to top the Billboard 200. Their albums are simply beautiful because each song tells a part of the story which culminates into a heart-touching story. They have become a sensation because they are sweet and extremely down to earth. The songs that they give us, are an instant hit because of all the hard work and dedication they put behind each of their songs. All of the guys have an amazing friendship and are very co-ordinated in their moves. It is said
