The Horror Book List

Image
The Shining by Stephen King The movie version of  The Shining  is a pop culture touchstone — but as usual, the book is even better than the movie. There's a reason King is considered a horror master: The tense atmosphere and freaky supernatural occurrences get into the reader's head and make you begin to doubt your own grip on sanity, along with that of the characters. Most people are probably familiar with the premise of the book: An alcoholic father takes a job as the off-season caretaker of an isolated mountain resort, in order to work on his writing and become closer to his family. The son is a psychic, a "shiner", who can see the haunting in the hotel. Sure the book is chock full of supernatural visions — but equally disturbing is the human-on-human violence. The child's-eye view of his parents' deteriorating relationship — and sanity — is meant to dredge up uncomfortable memories of childhood's confusion and powerlessness. 2. Haunted:

Taken

"Hello, hello, please someone help me! Please! My friends they're lost!" Sam cried out loud, but to find out there was no one there to hear him. Yet, he didn't care where he was or how he reached there, he was just relieved to be out in the air.                He walked a few steps to see a police station at the corner of the road and rushed towards it, panting, trying to breath. "Hello, officer, help! Please help me! My friends.. They're trapped, lost. I can't find them anywhere. They've taken my friends, they've taken my friends. " Sam's words had no effect on the officer's face. The officer calmly replied,"Have a seat, Sir. Tell me what's wrong. Tell me everything from the start." Sam gathered some courage and began.                  "There were 5 of us, me, Anne, Royston, Rocky and Jenny. We were just having fun, Sir. We didn't intend any harm. And now they're gone. All my friends; they've

The Terrace: Guest Post

Image
I'm not a firm believer in ghosts and spirits, as such, but during the wee hours of the night when I have to sleep, it's ALL I can think about, and, it scares me. My best friend believes in everything related with the supernatural, and she's had many stories to tell us about the kind of eerie things happening in her life. Last year, for my birthday the four of us were up at my terrace late in the evening. We were just watching some movies and eating, when all of a sudden she wanted to leave and go back downstairs. Under no circumstances was I packing up and leaving to go down when it was so nice up there. She swore she saw some strange whitish figure in the adjoining terrace at least three times, swooshing past our side of the terrace, she was terrified. Obviously we didn't leave until we were done, also as we went down, nothing happened. I still go up to my terrace for listening to music and to relax for a while, but now, even though I kno

The Annabelle Doll

Image
Annabelle was a vintage Raggedy Ann doll purchased in 1970 by a mother for her daughter, Donna's 28th birthday. Donna was a college student at the time, and living with her roommate named Angie, at first neither thought that there was anything special about the doll. But over time they noticed Annabelle seemed to move on her own.  At first it was really subtle, just changes in position, the kind of things that could be written off as the doll being jostled. But the movement increased, and within a few weeks, it seemed clear that something was wrong. The girls would leave the apartment with Annabelle on Donna's bed and return home to find it on the couch.  Lou(Angie’s fiancé) hated the doll. He thought there was something terribly wrong with it, something evil, but the girls didn't believe that. But soon Annabelle's actions got even weirder.Donna began to find pieces of parchment paper in the house with messages written on it. "Help us," they would sa

The Camping Trip

Image
As young boys we were all very fascinated by the creepy ghost stories. Every camping trip from our school had this one occasion when some guy would narrate us a ghost story or some other scary incident which he either recalled or made up. We would all huddle around him and listen to him carefully, trying to soak in the supernatural aura created by the story. It was all in good humor, only, not on that night. The night was rife and we were all set for a story. Our bus was about to leave in the next hour on our our journey back home. We had early dinners during our camping trips and hence we were all stuffed. We all huddled up in a small tent and a torch was passed on to the guy who was going to narrate the incident. He began his story, ironically in the way all fairytales begin.  " Once upon a time, there was a small village of poor farmers. They were harassed by the local landlord for money. The landlord used his influence and muscle power to acquire more land. H

The Ouija Board

Image
Do you believe in ghosts? This question may sound stereotypical to most of y’all, but give it another thought. Don’t  you think there are some other entities, probably living in your house? You were sure that  you had shut the bedroom door the other day, but then when you returned it was ajar. Or  maybe things just randomly changed location overnight?  It’s them – the inhabitants of  the spirit world. Do you want to communicate with these spirits? Get yourself an Ouija  Board. These aren’t just ordinary wooden planks. An Ouija board is a rather sinister-looking  board that can help you talk to the spirits. It’s got the letters and numbers from 0-9 on  it. Using a mysterious heart-shaped planchette, the spirit spells its reply via these letters.  Also, ominously, you’ll find an eerie “GOOD BYE” written at its base. The Ouija Board Now that you have your Ouija, prepare for a séance (this scary words basically means  a conversation with the spirits). Gather a

Memories

Image
Memories While I agree that Diamonds do cost a lot, memories are still the most precious things in the world. Memories are endless. You create them even while thinking ! Memories are our identity. They formulate who we are in our heads. As you may have heard, it's important to know yourself. Well, just take the statement literally and then imagine how important it is to literally know who you are ! Imagine what would happen if you were to lose your memory.Short term memory loss sounds good only from the movie's perspective. In reality it will be a very scary situation. Also, just as a disclaimer, this post wasn't sponsored by any of the tattoo studios. Memories are lessons from the past. Memories are reminders which let us know that there were times of happiness and that grief is short lived. People remember various things. I remember watching cartoons after school, they shaped a major part of my childhood. I remember the first time I
