"This is the best house you can get at this price, trust me", he was seen convincing a young couple, John and Emily, who were thinking of settling down and had zeroed in on this place.

"The built is superb, I love its old craftsmanship. But.." Emily said to John.
"But...what?"
"There is something strange about this place. I don't know what" she replied.

"Oh no, ma'am. Its just that you need time to adjust to this location. It's kind of unique" the man tried to persuade her.

"You know what? We will take it. I love this location, there is a certain mystery behind everything here." John said.

"Oh, very well, sir. Let us then complete the formalities". Both men proceeded to the study, leaving Emily alone.

She was intrigued. She started exploring the place. The hall, the kitchen, the playroom, the guest's room, she had seen it all.
Now, the bathroom.
She entered. It was clean and shining. The mirror was spotless and the place smelt good.
She leaned forward to wash her face. Suddenly, she felt something. Something around her, something near her. She could hear a hissing sound but couldn't decipher it.

Meanwhile, the deal was completed and the owner was handed a cheque, as per the agreement.
He then took leave of the new owners and stepped out of the house.

"I am sorry, but I had to do this. Take care of yourselves." He thought to himself while leaving.
He?
Tim's father.

Both John and Emily, were excited at their new purchase. They planned a house warming party, the next day. Guest list was sorted, arrangements were made.
The party began.
Everyone congratulated the couple on the beautiful ol' house.

The house, felt good.
The party ended at sometime near midnight.
"Everyone enjoyed a lot. I seriously love this place." John said.
"John, I have something to tell you." Emily said.
"Yes, go on."
"You are going to be a father. I am pregnant." Emily said, her voice ecstatic, expecting the same enthusiasm from her husband.
"What?" He exclaimed, his tone more worried than enthusiastic.
"Emily, we cannot afford to have a child now. I have just started my career. Even you have planned things. You have to abort it."
The room felt cold.
"What? How can you even think of it? No way."
A heated argument took place between them.

John collected his bedding, went and slept in the hall.
The hall.
He got up. He heard something.
Something around him. Something near him, a hissing sound.
"Father killed me". John listened.
Taking this as a hallucination, he went to the bathroom to clear the air.
It was clean. The mirror was spotless. It smelt good.
John leaned down to wash his face.
Instinctively, he looked at the mirror.

Tim, blood dripping down from his eyes, his yellow shirt almost red, his lip stitched, smiled at him.
He turned back. No one.
Again, he looked at the mirror. Same boy, now closer. His eyes demanded revenge, his smiled beckoned death.
He hissed into John's ears.

"Father killed me"
John screamed.

Emily woke up and dashed towards the bathroom.
It was clean, except for a few drops of blood on the floor. She looked up.
John, his face torn, his chest ripped, his mouth opened in a scream.
The mirror read-
"Father killed me. So did I"

-Rtr. Tushar Garg.
