Mental health

The root of this dilemma is how we view mental health in this country. Whether the illness affects your heart, leg or brain, its still an illness and there should be no distinction".
Walking down a road filled with people, we can see them laughing and conversing. But the thing that pricks us is not knowing what one feels underneath. People wearing a mask everyday covering their sad lonely face and revealing them only at night. Its impossible to know what one feels whether the person is your brother or your father. Today this world has become a place inhabitable for human beings due to its cruel nature. And this is why mental illness is becoming the most dangerous and fatal problem.

Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain but it is harder to carry and bear. It is easy to say " i have a pain in my tooth" but difficult to say that i have a broken heart.
Our brain is complicated. Even more than a computer. Good Mental health is not just absense of any mental illness but also having the capability to overcome the problems and face the struggles of life strongly. Today,in India we have a population of 264 million with only 792 psychologists.

People dont know the power of our subconscious mind. Our conscious mind can distinguish between the rights and wrongs and filter the thoughts but our subconscious mind cannot filter the negative thoughts. Thus whatever we feed, it digests. People with negative minds are the most affected.
Imagine being in a bad dream and trying to run away. You are being tortured but unable to express anything. You are unable to speak. You want to scream, punch or just shout but your body cant move. That is what a mental illness feels like. Its like a mind prison. People dont enjoy their lives. They run behind their careers wanting to succeed. Giving your best doesnt mean working to the point of your mental breakdown. Its okay to fail in an exam, its okay to not attend your school, its okay to go on a vacation, its okay miss your job,
Its okay to need help, its okay to hide from the world. Mental illness is not your personal failure.

Most common mental illness are anxiety, depression etc. The most difficult disease to diagnose is Borderline personality disorder. Schizophrenia includes unability to distinguish between reality and thoughts. There is no proper treatment for mental illness and today, every one out of four people are struggling with it. Be it a child or an adult. The level of stress and anxiety has lead to various mental illness due to which our mental health is deteriorating. Mental health in turn affects other parts of the body. Continuous displeasure and stress may lead to cardiac arrest, head ache, body ache etc. Depression and anxiety may not seem serious especially now when people are using it in every sentence. Sadness and depression is different. Depression is the loss of interest and passion in all those things which make you happy. It is like feeling tired and scared at the same time. Wanting to be alone but not lonely. It is the leading cause of disability.

Emotional pain should not be hid. It is the pain we need to overcome by facing it. It is in our hands to let it help us grow or swallow us down. Today every year 8 lakh people commit suicide and it is most common between people aging between 19-29 years. Early recognition and effective managment are key to ensure that people require sufficient care. War also has a great impact on mental health.
People with mental illness are often treated as not being intelligent, difficult and cannot make decisions. This can lead to rejection and abuse. Health centers are regarded as human warehouses rather than care centers.

Bhutan has inacted an index dedicated to the happiness of the citizens of bhutan. It is called the gross national happiness(GNH). It helps in measuring the collective happiness and well being of the population which is regarded as the fundamental human goal. GNH is more important than GDP( Gross domestic product) as said by late king of bhutan. Bhutanese help in spreading GNH in the UN and internationally.

Thus good mental health is important. Your illness doesnt define your strength and courage. Your life can always take a different path and different direction
