Surviving climate change- The need of the hour

It is said that you should always be ready for  changes  and adapt to them in order  to survive but the kind of change which is happening right now is some thing which we cannot adapt to at all as that would mean the end of this world .The change we are talking about is climate change .

The most recent impact of climate change is the burning of Amazon forest. Its not the just the forest which burns but also the lives of people living around the forest as the smoke exacerbates patients with asthma or bronchitis and have potential cancer risk, generally affecting the youth and elderly the most.
In Kerala too it looks like climate-change-induced floods are becoming an annual affair. The after effects of the floods are far more devastating .A few days after receiving one of the highest rainfalls in a century, Kerala was caught under the threat of severe drought.
Climate change is an issue which is still not being addressed to the extent to which it should be. Thus as responsible beings it becomes a responsibility on us as individuals to try and bring focus to this issue or maybe take a few small steps to reduce it and inspire the people around us to do so. Now the question arises as to how this can be done . This was done by Greta Thunberg the youngest environmental activist who started her efforts by simply holding up a sign calling for stronger climate action but was soon joined by her friends , other students of her own school her community and ultimately by the students of the entire world!

A Year five student of Nasarawaqa District School in Bua has become the youngest speaker in the COP23 side events in Bonn, Germany.

Shalvi Shakshi delivered her winning oratory speech at the closing of the Young and Future Generations Day.
The shy ten-year-old took to the stage to address the audience of climate change and its impact on the lives of Fijians.

Do you feel the need to do something too but don’t know how? Don’t worry here are few simple steps you can take:

1. Make Your Commute Green:
Taking public transportation to work is a great way to cut out emissions. Riding your bike to work is also incredibly helpful to the environment and is a great method to get exercise.

2. Be More Conservative with Energy Usage:
Make sure to turn off lights and unplug devices that you are not using anymore when you are done with them. Replace your light bulbs with energy-efficient light bulbs to help you save electricity too.

3. Educate Yourself and Others: The importance of educating others about climate change cannot be overstated in our modern society. There are many platforms for us to utilize that can allow us to spread our message easily. Whether you use word of mouth or social media, there are always ways to educate others on what climate change is doing to our planet.

4. Encourage the use of renewable energies:
Focusing your efforts to spread awareness about renewable energy is the best way to create a positive impact in your community. By informing others about how renewable energy is better than utilizing fossil fuels, you will sway others into investing in the idea.

Think globally, act locally. Start with the smaller things in life and see how it starts percolating in the larger things you do. Your actions are needed in the fight against climate change.
