Voice of The Mute: #1
Hitting possums and iguanas for fun? Laughing at the plight of the
animals. Enjoying their massacre for Days. These are some things which
are involved in our festivals. Festivals which promote the brutal
massacre of animals depict the inhumanity of the world. Across the
continents , these innocent beings are tortured to death at the name of
celebrating "festivals."
Animals help humans to survive in the
Eco system and In turn we slaughter them for their meat. Such
outrageous behaviour during festivals occurs across all continents. In
Mexico, ducks are hanged and their neck pressed till blood oozes out.
The tradition of eating dog meat in Yulin is one such gruesome act which
makes one shiver.
Though dogs and puppies are
considered cute and loved by all, some Chinese do not agree. The Yulin
dog eating festival is a ten day event in which close to 10,000
to 15,000 dogs are killed and eaten. At first these dogs are collected
and locked in cages. Then these people notch up their cruelty and starve
these dogs, torturing them. Later, they are butchered and dog meat is
sold as a delicacy. This festival takes place during the summer
solstice. The locals believe in the tradition that eating dog meat
brings luck and prosperity. I don't believe anyone is blessed by
slaughtering poor living beings. The bewildered look and innocence in
the eyes of the dogs does not stop the locals from killing them. Many
activists and celebrities are trying to ban this festival. PETA and many
other animal welfare organisations are against the Yulin festival.
Animal
cruelty is on the rise and if not stopped will lead to our undoing.
Such vicious and violent practices have to be stopped. These living
creatures play a significant role in our lives. Dogs are considered our
best friend. Harmless dogs and puppies should not be killed in the name
of tradition. These animals are our fellow living beings and should be
loved as respected. We have no right to take the lives of living beings
to whom we cannot give life.
