1. We still don't know Penny's surname
Unlike the other characters, Penny is the only one whose surname
has never been revealed. Reports claim that Kaley Cuoco Sweeting prefers to
keep this a mystery throughout the whole series.
Co-creator Bill Prady has said that the name will be revealed
eventually, but producer Steve Molaro has said the opposite, so who knows.
Unless of course her name is Penny Penny Penny, and Sheldon's knocks make more
sense.
2. Jim Parsons has never seen Star Trek
Sheldon is the unofficial King of Geekdom, and is an expert on everything from Marvel Comics to Red Dwarf. However, Jim Parsons isn't quite as clued up in the cult world. Parsons has never actually been a fan of any of Sheldon's favorite TV shows, particularly Doctor Who and Star Trek. He once told Time: "I'm very frank about certain things, I get asked a lot of science things and I'm like, 'you're kidding'. And even the pop culture… I've never seen Star Trek. I don't know Doctor Who."

Have
you ever wondered what the layout of the main characters' apartment looks like?
Quite how Penny was able to afford such a luxurious apartment on waitress wages
for so many years is beyond us.
4.
Inspiration
behind the characters’ names
The
two main characters (Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter) are named after late
television producer Sheldon
Leonard.
5.
Amy Fowler was made a neuroscientist on purpose.
Mayim Bialik, who in real life has a
PhD in neuroscience, told Variety how
Amy Farrah Fowler’s profession came to be. “They didn’t have a profession for
my character when I came on in the finale of season three,” she says. “In
season four, Bill Prady said they’d make her what I am so I could fix things
(in the script) if they were wrong. It’s neat to know what things mean. But
most of the time, I don’t have to use it.”
6. Audience on the show Actress Mayim Bialik mentioned in an interview that school where the major cacters work is based on the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). As a matter of fact, real-life Caltech students and staff are often in attendance when the cast and crew films the show.
7. 7. The Big Bang Theory: The guys will bring about the apocalypse
·
A
bit dark, but Cracked have posed the
idea that The Big Bang Theory is secretly all about the end of
the world, and that Sheldon, Leonard, Raj and Howard are the modern-day
equivalents of Einstein and Tesla. However, due to living in 2016 and getting
obsessed with girls and TV, they are not concentrating on the bigger picture.
They're in the wrong era.The Barenaked Ladies' intro theme goes through history
on a particular timeline, culminating with our heroes. The show's name is due
to the fact that the big bang is expanding to the point where one day gravity
will cause it to have a "big crunch", effectively a universe-reboot
where everybody dies, and the guys could have saved us somehow but they're too
busy watching TV. That's one way to end a show after 10 years.
8. #Lenny
It took only one take for Cuoco and
Galecki to film Penny professing her love for Leonard. "Kaley said to
Johnny, 'I don't know about you, but when we started the scene, the cameras and
the live audience all went away and it was just us,' " new showrunner Steve Molaro recalled, noting that he told both
actors the shot was beautiful and he knew they'd never get anything better.
9. Meaning behind
Sheldon’s T-shirts.
The Green Lantern symbol shirts
that Sheldon wears on "The Big Bang Theory" have corresponding
emotions in the comic universe: red for rage, blue for hope, indigo for
compassion and so on. The symbol on Sheldon's shirt is often a clue to his
emotions in that scene.
10. The elevator scenes are filmed on
just one floor
·
This one you may have guessed, but the three floors of the guys'
flat is actually just the same set redecorated each time. This means, if you
were to visit the fictional apartment block you'll be disappointed. For the sake
of a recurring gag, the actors and crew have to recreate the scene to make each
floor different each time, which is surely quite a headache. This is probably
why we don't see this comedy tool used as much in recent series.
