How I Dealt with Exam Pressure

Image
Since, I'm a student, and I've been through my fair share of exams. I've experienced exam pressure, and I know how it feels. It can be tough to deal with, but there are things you can do to manage it. Start studying early. The earlier you start studying, the less pressure you will feel. This will give you time to go over the material multiple times and make sure you understand it. Create a study schedule and stick to it. This will help you stay on track and avoid feeling overwhelmed. When you know what you need to study and when you need to study it, it's easier to stay focused. Take breaks. Don't try to study for hours on end without taking a break. Get up and move around, or take a few minutes to relax and clear your head. Taking breaks will help you stay refreshed and focused. Get enough sleep. When you are well-rested, you will be better able to focus and retain information. Aim for 7-8 hours...

Making the Most of My Summer Vacation

Image
After a stressful week of exams, I was finally free to relax and enjoy my summer vacation. I decided to spend my time reading novels, watching web series, visiting my Nani’s house, and spending time with my cousins. I started my vacation by reading a few novels that I had been wanting to read for a while. I curled up in a comfortable chair with a cup of tea and lost myself in the stories. I also watched a few web series that I was delaying to start because of exam. I enjoyed watching Brooklyn 99 a lot which is a comedy series based around a police precinct called ‘The 99.’ After a few days of relaxing at home, I visited my Nani’s place. I love spending time with my Maternal relatives and my cousins. We always have so much fun together. We play games, go for walks in the park, and eat delicious home cooked food made for us specially by Nani. My Nani’s house is in Chandigarh and it is very close to many hill stations so I also went hiking in the woods with my cousins. We hiked ...

Goa+ Friends=Memories for a life time

Image
Wondering where your next travel destination should be? Heading to Goa with your friends is an ideal holiday plan. Being the most popular summer travel destination, Goa is the place to be. Recently, I visited Goa with my friends and what a surreal time it proved to be. Sand filled beaches, accompanied with a wide range of cocktails and mocktails to choose from and aesthetic group photos with friends in the setting sun is what Goa is all about. The picturesque view from every angle, the crystal-clear blue water surrounding you and the serene sound of the waves gently rising makes Goa the rage in summers. The various water sports available for the people who wish to feel a sense of thrill are available on every beach there. From Snorkelling to Scuba Diving to Banana boat rides and Glass bottom boats, they have it all. A ‘water lovers’ paradise, Goa prides itself on its water sports and various training centres that are available to cater to beginners as well. As you go sailing ...

Expectations and Responsibilities

Image
When we are young, we look forward to growing up and becoming an adult. We glorify being an adult, getting the independence we have been yearning for since our childhood and enjoying life to the fullest without restrictions. The realisation of all the responsibilities that come with it only hits us when we embark on the journey of adulthood. Growing up, I was completely fascinated with the idea of being an adult, fending for myself, and all the freedom that came with it. For me there was no downside that I could see, no problems that I had considered I would have and no ‘responsibilities’ that I had noted. Few months away from becoming a legal adult, reality struck and now I was caught up in a whirlwind of a situation. The various societal ‘expectations’, requirements and necessities were now ruling my life. There were questions asked about my academic plans, my future career prospects, the field I would want to pursue and where I saw my life in the near future. I had no defin...

Fusion Sports

Image
Hybrid Sports  Combining different disciplines is the key to unlocking new levels of performance. - Laird Hamilton, big wave surfer and fitness enthusiast Fusion sports, also known as hybrid sports or cross-training, are becoming increasingly popular among athletes and fitness enthusiasts. These types of sports combine two or more disciplines to create a new and unique activity that tests the body and mind in different ways. Some examples of fusion sports include yoga pilates, parkour gymnastics, and boxing-MMA. One of the main benefits of fusion sports is the diversity of movements and skills required. By incorporating different techniques and training modalities, athletes can improve their overall athleticism, strength, agility, and endurance. This can also prevent boredom and burnout that can occur from doing the same workout routine repeatedly. Another advantage of fusion sports is the mental challenge they provide. Combining different sports requires athletes to adapt to new s...

My Relationship With Animals

Image
For us humans relationships with animals are complex and multifaceted. We are a part of this huge ecosystem and hence we feel an extremely strong connection to the natural world therefore we are capacitated to form bonds with animals just as strong as human bonds. I have never had an opportunity to have pets in my life, but i have always felt a strong affinity towards animals. Each animal that i have had around has taught me something very different about unconditional love and obedience or just simply caring cor another living being irrespective of reciprocation of any of it. They have taught me patience. These relationships can be incredibly rewarding, but they also require responsibility and care. An incident which was one of the most impactful experiences in my life that taught me about the deep rooted feelings that I have for the animals was my time at the gir safari. Seeing the majestic cheetahs, lions, bulls, rhinos in their natural habitats was extremely exhilarating. It ...

Most Difficult Decision

Image
Undeniably, taking decisions is an integral part of everybody’s routine life. Right from minor to major, there are plenty of decisions that we have to take during our lifetime. Here, I would like to highlight a decision that didn’t come easy to me, but I still had to take it. And, it was regarding the study stream to choose after finishing my 10th standard. Due to family expectations and peer pressure, we neglect our likes and dislikes, and comfortably choose the wrong path.         I  exactly remember that time and how confused I was as my parents had given me complete freedom to choose whatever stream I wanted.    While they were still promoting the benefits of taking a non-medical stream, my inclination was more towards commerce. This, in turn, added more to my confusion. My parents had their own justifications as they were aware of the types of prospects and opportunities I could get by taking the non-medical stream. However, rather than opp...

Memories of Him

Image
Do you have a friend who loved you? Who was not a part of your family but was a part of your family? Well, i did. His name was Rohan. He was very close friend of mine, rather bestfriend. He was very kind. He had hazel eyes and i loved him so much.         He invited me to go swimming every summer and we used to have a lot of fun. He couldn't swim most of the time as he remained sick.         Rohan always listened to me when i had a problem. He was always there  to help me whenever I needed him, be it academics or extras. We watched tons of movies together with a bowl of soup every time.          Last summer, it all changed. Rohan was diagnosed with cancer. It was a hilarious week for me to process it. Two weeks after being diagnosed with cancer, he died. My mom didn't let me attend his funeral.          My heart broke. Rohan was no longer with me. Now, it's been a year without...

When opportunities come your way, you should always try to make the best of them! When I think about my regrets at night, I often think about all the missed opportunities I had but didn't take, all the ones I took but didn't make the best out of it. I now realize the sheer amount of things I have missed out on in life just because I was scared to do something new. I was afraid of going outside my comfort zone but in doing so I was restricting myself to this tiny box with high walls. It was comfortable but I knew somewhere in my heart that I wasn't going to grow if I kept myself confined like this. I had to take risks, had to find new things. It wasn't easy, pushing my boundaries for the first time. But when I went outside that box, it was so freeing. I had not realized how suffocating it actually was to live fearing doing things I didn't know about. I came to accept that I wouldn't be able to live my life fully if I kept on restricting myself and so I tried ne...

The Way Back

Image
Have you ever tried traveling in the local train at the peak hours? If you have you will vividly remember the sites, the crowd but if you haven't let me paint you a picture. Imagine a woman sitting beside you talking on the phone, her mother is eagerly waiting for her with a plate of hot food as she gets back from work. Or the lady standing next to the doors, she has to change 3 trains before she can reach home or the lady who just got on, she's going home after working for 10 hours straight trying to prove her worth in a competitive industry. Each of these people seated in this train beside me have a story to tell, just like I do. Mine is simple, going home from college. A day filled with laughter and joy as I talk to my friends and do little studying in class. Not all people surrounding me have a happy story to tell, I don't either on some days. But still we all persist. We all go home and get up the next day to face a new day and live through what life offers. And some...

Sensitivity Towards Deaf People

Image
Sensitivity Towards Deaf People Deafness or partial deafness is often looked upon as a defect or impairment by society and people tend to pity deaf people and treat them very differently. We shouldn’t separate them from us as “impaired” or “normal” instead we should interact with them more and in this process, make them feel like a regular person. However, we should pay attention to some important points on how to be more sensitive towards deaf or partially deaf people so that we don’t offend them unintentionally.  1. Deaf or Partially Deaf people are generally speech impaired as they do not listen to the pronunciations while having conversations, thus it is important to be sensitive towards speech defects of any person who is deaf or partially deaf. 2. Deaf or Partially Deaf people tend to misinterpret the communication made to them as they resort to lip reading while trying to understand the other person's communication. Thus superiors or friends and relatives should be sensitive...

Covid Experience at College

Image
The COVID-19 pandemic was a life-changing experience for me. This event occurred unexpectedly and had an impact on the entire world, including myself.  The coronavirus has claimed many lives while forcing countries to go into lockdown and implement a variety of anti-contamination measures. Despite the fact that I was fortunate enough not to lose any loved ones to the virus, living in New York gave me a taste of the massive changes brought on by the COVID infection.  As a first-year college student, I expected to have a great time. Instead of parties and social gatherings, my classmates and I have had to deal with distance learning and strict lockdown measures. Yet, the first-year college students agreed to arrange a zoom call to get to know each other, and I have already managed to make some friends! Meeting them in person, as the lockdown measures softened, was a one-of-a-kind experience. Besides, I had more time to spend with my family members! Studying online is also ...

My Experience at an Orphanage

Image
Experiences, in my opinion, are crucial in shaping our personalities over time. I was raised in a nurturing and loving environment where I always felt safe and loved. My parents made me feel important all the time. I was a difficult child. I used to have temper tantrums when things didn't go my way. My mother loved me unconditionally, despite the fact that I was a demanding child. My mother was very patient and compassionate, and she used to explain things to me so well that I could understand why things couldn't always be the way I wanted them to be. But as a child, I was never interested in understanding her sermons. But then, on a school trip to an orphanage, something happened that completely changed my perspective on life. An orphanage is a facility that cares for orphans (children who are homeless and have no parents).  When I was in fourth grade, my school organised an educational trip to an orphanage institute.  We were instructed to bring whatever we desired to ...

The Tunnel Ends Where is the line between hoping for the best for someone and expecting them to achieve it? I'm not saying it's wrong to expect things. We're humans, it's natural for us to expect things from one another. What's wrong is to put your expectations on someone else because you want them to achieve them. I know those people want the best for me, but where is the line between hoping that I do my best and expecting it out of me every single time? When setting goals, if one takes into account every person's needs from them, the pressure would be endless. It would be like fighting a constant battle against the voices in your head to do better so that you are never satisfied with what you have already accomplished. Doing exactly that made me wish I could rip my hair out. Leave my very being and just stop. I often thought if I have to see my life as a movie what would I see? What parts would I put? When I turn old and frail would I be proud of the life I ...

Writing a Silent Play

Image
When we first hear the word ‘play’ we instantly think of dialogues and actions. Those are arguably two of the most important components of a play. But what if a play had to be written without dialogues – a silent play. When writing a silent play, there are a few aspects one must take into consideration such as specifying the location, differentiating characters from one another, etc. • Actions and Message Since there are no dialogues, the action portrayed must be clearly visualized. It will be the driving force for the play to move from one scene to another. While writing a script, one must think about what they want their story to portray. Since silent plays lack dialogues or sounds, the message of the play must be clearly seen in the acting. The writer must emphasize each scene’s location, character moods and how the action plays out. The underlying message or mood must also be clearly portrayed. • Characterization by using Visual Stereotypes Characters must be distingui...

Falling Down When you've always been a ‘bright’ child from a young age, there come certain inherent expectations of you. Expectations to stand out more, to achieve something greater, to be someone better. And when you fall short of those expectations the disappointment is like no other. From a very young age, I was expected to excel in everything. It didn’t help that I was exceptionally well at studies either. I was always told I’d do great things. And to a fifth grader, of course, it sounded beautiful, to be told that I could achieve whatever I wanted. But as I grew up, the things expected from me started to feel like an endless chasm, where no matter how much I tried to climb out, I just kept on falling. At some point the adding expectations became suffocating. Everything I did, I was scared of failing. I was so scared that I didn’t even try. If there were no expectations, there couldn’t be any disappointments. For the longest time, I tried to do things that were safe for me, a...

Escapade   My journey till date wouldn't do justice if I compared it to a simple roller coaster ride. We've all been through ups and downs no doubt in that, but I would like to relate my journey with that of a local train. You see, in order to alight at the right station at the right time, you have to push your way through others in order to reach your destination. There are times when you're lucky enough to find little chaos in the train compartment. You find the crowd filling in with every succeeding station that you pass by. Well, life relates in its own mysterious ways, doesn't it? Initially, it made everything look so easy and comfortable whilst we were in school. We were more lively and cheerful worrying less about what the future had in store for us. But as time passed by, we witnessed how slowly everything in life became a part of a race, a race that started way back in time, right since we took birth on this planet. A race with a never-ending loop that ...

After The Storm To endings, beginnings and falling in love You are certainly somebody people can love – Fred Rogers We are always taught to be kind, empathetic and understanding towards others. But why doesn’t anyone ever teach us to love our own selves? Why does no one ever tell us that you are enough? We’ve let other people define our lives for far too long. It’s time that we stop being okay with the way things have always been and start taking a stand for our own selves. Acceptance has been a long process for me. It took me years to wholly accept my body. To fully accept myself the way I am. But over the course of this journey, I have learned so much that has helped me evolve as the person that I have come to become. When I look in the mirror today, I see a young lady who has fought her own battles and has emerged victorious. I see someone who is confident, compassionate and ambitious. But above all, she is the epitome of happiness. It hasn’t been easy. I have had my fa...

A Thousand Storms To wounds, pain, acceptance and self-discovery Stop trying to fix your body, it was never broken – Eve Ensler Growing up had always been difficult for me with everybody around me being just perfect. I was just the ugly duckling in a sea of perfection. Being skinny was not a wrong choice that I had made, that was who I was. And being constantly reminded about it just made me drown in a deep pit of self-doubt. My self-worth plummeted downhill and I was ripped off my confidence. When you don’t fit into society’s set body standards, you start getting treated as a nobody. Your opinions and your choices just don’t matter to them. You become invisible to them and slowly you start accepting your fate rather than standing up for yourself. You start getting tagged with millions of names and after a point of time, you just stop taking a stand for yourself. You start comparing yourself to everyone around you. “Why can’t I be like her?” The one question that slowly star...

Appreciating Life I have a lot of hobbies. My days used to be occupied by activities like painting, dancing, competitions and outings with friends. And I used to enjoy it. Gradually, my days started becoming tiring. I had ended up taking on so many commitments. I was busy living life or so I thought. But in reality, I was just… busy. I was in a rush to complete one activity just so I could start chasing something else. In this plethora of undertakings, I realized as time went by, I stopped saying thank you to my mom after she cooked food for me. Or when my sister helped me pick my clothes. I stopped watering the plants in my house like I used to with care making sure every plant gets the required amount. I no longer stopped in the middle of the street to click a picture of the sunset. Or see which phase the beautiful moon is in. I didn’t wait for the rain like I used to. Because I always had somewhere to be, something to do. I wanted to start stopping again. I wanted to appreciat...
