The Pride Way
"The beauty of standing up for your rights is that others see you standing and stand up as
well." - Cassandra Duffy
The courage of those who walked the Pride Parade brought about tumultuous changes in
many parts of the world. Here are some:
Australia:
Australia has the highest number of laws protecting LGBTQIA+ community from
discrimination in workplaces and in general. Among the plenty rights available to the
community, the prominent ones are: change of sex, personnel allowed to serve in military,
marriage, adoption, and running for political positions.
France:
France has the reputation of being the most gay-friendly countries, Paris being called the
most romantic cities in the world, how can it become a hindrance to love! The country allows
most of the rights to the LGBT+ community, although large numbers of homophobic and
transphobic attacks are observed every year due to the orthodox thinking still prevailing.
USA:
Continuous efforts have been made to make USA more LGBTQIA+ friendly. Adoption of
children by same-sex married couples is legal nationwide since June 2015. Crimes due to
deliberate inequality and hatred based on sexual orientation or gender identity have been
made punishable under the federal act of 2009. Civil Rights of the community have been
advocated at all levels by various organizations.
UK:
The LGBTQIA+ rights have increasingly strengthened since the start of the 21st century.
Today, LGBTQIA+ citizens have many legal rights and UK provides one of the highest
degrees of support and developing mindsets to accept everyone and everything. UK
currently holds the world record for having the most out LGBTQIA+ people in it's Parliament.
LGBTQIA+ communities have been built across UK, most notably in Brighton, which is
widely regarded as the UK's unofficial "gay capital".
Belgium:
LGBTQIA+ rights in Belgium are seen as some of the most progressive in Europe and in the
world. Belgium became the second country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage in
2003. Belgium has also frequently been referred to as one of the most gay-friendly countries
in the world.
India:
In the second decade of this century, several significant decisions have been made
regarding LGBTQIA+ community. Rights provided include a third gender option,
disclassification of homosexuality has a sickness, equal age of consent, adoption (by single
people, not couples), and other iconic judgements not many hoped for in India.
"Love is too beautiful to be hidden in a closet."
The journey to achieve total equality because of the narrow thinkers, it will be a little hard,
but the finish line will be colourful, not grey. Although some part of the destination is still
remaining, we have come a long way.The day is not far where every form will not only have
gender as male, female and others but also lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer,
intersex and asexual, cause actions are louder than words.
