The Mentalist

The Mentalist is a very interesting show about a man named Patrick Jean, a former psychic who has the ability to "read" peoples minds.

He uses these same skills to work with the FBI, and helps them catch criminals. In return he also wants their aid in catching the person who killed his wife and daughter.
The peculiar thing about this show is the way he uses his ability to think in absurd ways helps him solve crimes. Putting himself in the shoes of the criminal and predicting the criminal's next move, as well as using a "mind palace" to store all important facts and  evidence of the case, are just a few of the things that he does.

Patrick's ability to think in the most absurd fashion and come up with the most crazy reasons as to how a person can be caught or proven guilty is interesting.
This is also probably the reason why the show has a very repetitive story line. In which the sequence of events happen in an almost identical fashion, and then the saviour of the day, Mr. Patrick Jane, comes up with a seemingly absurd idea which somehow or the other works out and they catch the criminal.
Don't get me wrong it's still an epic show to watch, the way Patrick goes about noticing things, and the mind games that he is capable of playing are fascinating. They make one want to use these tricks in real life as well(though they don't work half as well as they do on the show
