From the Editor's Desk

Certain projects almost immediately strike a chord along the process of their conception. 'RED. AMBER. GREEN.' is one such project, crafted by the Rotaract Club of NM College's Editorial team to leave a lasting impression on the readers' minds.




It revolves around the lives of those, whose very existence is defined by traffic signals  - the ones that we so simply pass by.

The name of this project was inspired by this simple thought that so many lives revolve around one traffic signal. Their livelihood, memories, dreams and all the other elements that act as a mélange to create the life of an individual, are all experienced and nurtured under one signal.

It is with immense pleasure that I present to you this blog theme. A lot of effort went into making it - approaching the people, listening to their stories, understanding their way of life and putting them before you all in the form of teasers. Here’s the final product though; curated especially for you, to portray, as beautifully as we could, the ‘behind the scenes’ of these traffic signals by way of fictional short stories.

All I’d like to say is that the ambit of this project extends well beyond the stories you are about to enjoy -  its essence lies in appreciating all that passes under the omnipresent three lights - Red, Amber, Green.

'There comes a time when silence is betrayal'.   -Martin Luther King .  To where it all started… Let's go back in time to the year 2013- The year 2013 which has made all difference by celebrating the acknowledgment of the existence of black lives, when the never answered injustice in the form of racism was questioned. Black lives matter is the world famous movement which signifies the contribution of the black folks in the society. The movement came to life against the white supremacy because of the deadly oppression and the brutal behaviour faced by the black race community.   A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men. Gloria Steinem. Feminism not a one way concept, a wide spectrum…       Feminism – an eight-letter word which has shaped the beliefs of all of the human-kind, which has kept the connotation of ‘feminism’ as the advocacy of women’s rights the grounds of the equality of the sexes. Through this piece, I’d like to share my notion about this sentiment, seeking to establish parallel ‘hope’, ‘freedom’, ‘space’, ‘contingency’ and ‘cut’ through a male prospect.
